A Taste of My Own Medicine

I am famous for mothering those closest to me. Whether it's health, relationships, etc., I'll be the first person to plant a foot in your ass and give you a reality check if I think you need it. While I myself am receptive to a taste of my own medicine, I make it difficult for those I love. See, I am a master at giving only half the details. One has to be very close to my heart to know what's really going on sometimes - and even then it might take some pulling from me, and you'd better be good at guesswork! This is something I'm actively working on. I don't need to fear judgement, and I'm learning that, albeit slowly.

So last May I had some bloodwork done and the nurse called to tell me my potassium was really high and I needed to get the test taken again. Instead of understanding the possible seriousness of this (diabetes is one reason for very bad potassium, as an example, as it signifies kidney problems), I blew it off and never went back. I didn't mention it to anyone. It took my doctor visit two weeks ago for my own reality check. The doctor noticed I'd never gone back and rightfully chastised me for neglecting the bloodwork. He said something to the effect of "Well I guess it's a good thing you're still here, because according to the test, you should be dead by now." Okay, duly noted. I needed my own tactics there.

The good news is, I received a letter in the mail today stating my bloodwork was normal. See, I knew it was just a fluke. LOL

Well, I'm glad the doc gave you a dose of your own medicine. Even more glad, that everything turned out fine.

I don't know you personally, so I don't have the right to chew your ass out or anything, but I'd like to say that you really can't be too careful when it comes to your health. So, please, take care of yourself and don't put things off that really shouldn't be.

Denial isn't a river in... well you don't need that. Just be careful. We wanna keep you around. (Says the man that hasn't had a physical since 1993.)
