I just finished the movie "Leaving Las Vegas". I remember seeing this movie when it was released in 1995 and leaving it open-mouthed having been stunned, and crying. This time wasn't as tragic - I still got teary at the end but the shock value was gone. When I first saw it I had dreams about it for about 2 weeks, yet this movie wasn't one I could relate to.
This is one of my favorite movies, and I'm not sure why? It's dysfunctional love at it's finest - It's hard to think of this movie as a love story, but truly, it is. The relationship between Ben and Sera intrigues me yet baffles me at the same time. We know Ben's destiny quickly in the movie... we know who he is and there aren't many layers to the onion. But Sera? Why does she allow herself to get tangled in the mess that is Ben? Does she really love him? Or is she really using him as she suggests at one point in the movie... keeping the walls up until later in the movie? I'm not sure in the early stages of their relationship, but in the end, I believe she does. I'm wondering right now what happens to Sera as the last scene closes? Is there a happy ending for her? I don't think so... I believe she survives, because she is a survivor. But happiness? I'm not sure she truly ever understands the concept.

A bit of trivia - there are two of rock 'n roll's royalty in the movie. Without going to IMDB, can you tell me who they are?

I saw the movie when it first came out and remember leaving the theater very sad and wondering why I had just watched something so depressing by choice. If I were to see it again, now, later, I am sure I might take more away from it than I did back then.
But speaking of inexplicable favorite movies: One of my all time faves is none other than Mommy Dearest. LOVE that movie; it is sick, twisted and wonderful all at the same time. I think I know why I like it so much, but in any case, I get the whole dark movie as favorite scene.
Living in Las Vegas at all qualifies you for hot, dysfunctional lovin'. People here are crazy.
I've never seen this movie, but it is now on my list of oldies to watch.
Never seen it but always wanted to. Will have to make a point to now.
