Articles like this remind me how thankful (and lucky) I am to be an American woman:

But that is one of our most 'friendly' governments, even if what, 15 of the 19 9-11 hijackers and most of the money came from there?

Thanks for pointing this out. I don't think enough people realize the oppression that so many Middle Eastern Muslim women face.

( BTW I am getting certified to be a sexual assault/rape counselor in Jan/Feb next year.)

Wow is all I can say. This just blows my mind. It amazes me to see the many differences in cultures, customs, laws, etc. Reading articles like this definately makes one appreciate our justice system (albeit a many flawed one)that much more.

Barb-- congrats on your upcoming certification. I wish you the best.

And they're our fuckin' ally. Yeah, that makes sense.

While I've never been a supporter of the government's decision to go into Iraq, I certainly recognize that some cultures have miles to go when it comes to human rights.

I know the US is not guilt free, but the way women are treated as second-class citizens in certain parts of the world saddens and frustrates me.

Some cultures are wrong. Period.

It is amazing what a legal system based on different ideologies will allow. Yes, I'm glad that you are in America and that it has a different legal system based on another ideology.
