Sick Days 'n Stuff

The surprise birthday party was a huge success. She admitted she really wasn't surprised, apparently we were all acting a little "suspicious". Us? Suspicious? Kim and I have never been very good at pulling one over on Annie. She's always been the grownup of the group.

I came home from the party not feeling so good, and have been sick all week. I can say without a doubt this has been the worst winter of my life. I've been sick pretty much the whole winter. It can only get better from here, right? Spring has a whole new meaning this year. Karl was kind enough to bring this one home - and Madison hasn't come down with it yet, so I've got my fingers crossed. She's been on antibiotics for the last week for an ear infection, and though I am fully aware antibiotics don't fight viruses, I wonder if her immune system is able to fight this one off since antibiotics kill everything. At least that's what I'm hoping for, since her winter has been worse than my own.

I always like ending on a good note, so I'll share something happy. I bought this great wooden puzzle for Madison a few months ago - it's of dinosaurs, and when you put the pieces in correctly, that particular dinosaur roars (she loves dinosaurs). Much like her Mommy, she gets frustrated when things don't work the way they're supposed to immediately. She would hastily try to shove pieces in and get very upset that it was going to take work! So, the other night she takes the puzzle and removes all the pieces and wants me to sit with her. I'm dreading this scene, as it is hard to watch your children be frustrated and not help them (meaning - do it for them), but I know I must let her figure it out on her own. In about 4 minutes she had placed each dinosaur in its correct spot, all by herself. She was so excited, and I was so proud!

Awww. Gotta love that. And here you thought you'd have to do it for her. Smart cookie you have there.

Good for you for having the patience, and better for her for being such a bright little girl! I hope that Spring brings you all relief.

I love those moments! What is it about kids and dinasours? My son went through that and now my great-nephew practically IS a dinasour cause that's all he talks about.

I believe in positive thinking so"

Madison is NOT going to get sick and you are going to better SOON!

Glad the surprise party was a semi-success.

That is such a cute story about your daughter. Yeah Madison on getting the puzzle together.

I'm sending all the germ and bug protection I can your way Lora. I'm wondering if you'd all be better off in bubbles though. lol

I have been fighting out sickness all winter as well. And my hours and irregular sleeping habits certainly do not help the situation. Oh and work just breeds sick, but it s not liek I can't go there every day, right? I hope you feel better soon, I hate being sick.

Glad you had a good time, but I am sorry you are sick. You have had a lot of illness this winter and I am sure you can thank the daycare for that.

I am glad you fought the urge to help Madison and let her do it. I feel that way with my students. I just want to give them the answers, but know that they accomplish so much more by figuring it out on their own.

This has also been the worst winter for me, too. Next year, I'll probably get a flu shot for the first time in my life.
