Cassettes and Regrets

Yesterday I received a Think Geek catalog in the mail. I opened it to find this incredible device you see here. What is it, you ask? It's a tape deck! Yes, kids, it takes those old cassette tapes and converts the music to MP3 format. The problem? I don't have my cassettes anymore. When you're compulsive and get rid of things, sometimes you live to regret it. I can see all your "I told you so" faces from here. You can find out more about it here.

If it makes you feel any better, these things have been around for awhile. Sadly, I haven't heard anyone say anything good about them, so you shouldn't feel too badly.

I still have a TON of my cassettes if you want to browse through them... just a thought.

I've got cassettes laying around, but I'm sure they are in horrible shape. Garbage in, garbage out, so I don't think the MP3s would be listenable.

I am glad Matt said they are not that great because I like you no longer have my ten zillion cassettes.

Now, if this thing could do something with vinyl, that would be great!!!

That is the coolest thing! I have over 200 cassette tapes in my garage. The last time I actually listened to any of them was close to 10 years ago, but I refuse to get rid of them, those are some damn good tapes. lol
The only way I'll get rid of any of them is if I find them on cd (gotta replace the clutter ya know!)

Yeah, I saw that and I threw away all my old cassettes long ago too. Sigh. Sometimes I hate not being a pack rat.

Matt and Ethel: Thanks for your comments, because it made me feel better about not saving all those cassettes!

Amy: Thank you. :)

Barbara: I can't believe how many I got rid of... I should have at least made a list so I could purchase my favorites in CD. Which makes me think... I do have a lot of vinyl, perhaps I should get some of those in CD.

Nik: It is a really fabulous invention, and it says it does high-quality recording... but Matt sort of made me wary when he said he hadn't heard any positive feedback about it. I do wish I would have held on to some of my cassettes, I was hasty in getting rid of them.

jj: I feel better knowing so many others got rid of their cassettes too. I was feeling a bit like a music killer. LOL

Jas: We non-pack rats need to stick together (high-five!)

You could do vinyl, but I think the equipment is money. It would be awesome if you could capture the sound though.

Oddly enough, I could see myself getting this to save myself tons of money trying to find CDs that are extremely rare.

Also... I could use it to convert over Fak-shen's De-evolution 499 into MP3s. Why is that important? It's the only copy I have of music from my former band. Nice to be able to take my musical past with me and mix it with my favorite songs.
