I'm going to Caliente today with a coworker to work on a project... don't let the name mislead you (for those of you Spanish-challenged like myself, Caliente means 'hot'). It's going to be a balmy 67 there today, with possible thunderstorms. This town kind of reminds me of a Stephen King novel waiting to happen. There's less than 1500 people who live there and it is the epitome of small town livin'. It's not so bad once you get used to it; it's pretty up there (you go through quite a mountain range to get there) and it's not far from the Utah border. If you like camping and wildlife, there's quite a bit out that way. The Wikipedia link above fails to mention that the railroad is the reason Caliente exists; it used to be quite a booming railroad town and still is to some extent. The downside? It's 170 miles outside of Vegas, one way. This used to be a site I took care of primarily, but I got to pass it on to the newest member of the team (ha ha ha!).
Hope you all have a great Tuesday. Let's just hope I don't have some sort of Cujo incident today...

Caliente the television show is much better than the town. I used to drive through it once or twice each year on the way to Idaho to see the grandparents. I'm more of a Mesquite type of person. B)
I we don't hear from you by Thurday, we'll send Martin to get you.
Make sure you leave a trail of bread crumbs.
Post as soon as you get back to let us know you are still among us!
Caliente sounds like a cool place to me,
Jas: I read a synopsis about U-Turn. It looked interesting until I noticed Jennifer Lopez was in it (shudder). I could definitely see the relation to Caliente!
Martin: Mesquite is WAY better than Caliente. :)
Fred: I left a trail of water bottle caps... thankfully I didn't need them, although traveling back with Martin would have been fun!
Well woman: Caliente is cool, if you're only passing through. They do have a nice little railroad museum, and a not-so-bad cafe, but believe me when I say creeeeepy!
Caliente -- for some reason I'm suddenly craving Mexican food, with lots of hot sauce.
Creepy? That's the place for me!
You guys will have to take me there next time I come out to visit :o)
Glad you had a safe and un-Stephen King novel trip!
The easiest way to get me to go hunt her down is with the promise of being flashed. B) Sure, it's 4 hours (there and back) but it'd be worth it to see how she'd handle it. I know Teri would never be able to do that. hahaha
Martin -- Teri is too prudish to flash, I couldn't even get her to agree to not wear a bra with her Halloween costume.
Too prudish? hmm are you guys trying to use reverse psychology on me?
I have not been to Caliente before, not sure it sounds like a place I even want to visit. Glad you are back safe and sound.
Rt- When you come back to Vegas, we should all get together.. It would be cool to see the people we talk to almost every day.
Reverse psychology...alcohol...hmmm I see a trend here.
I can see the King-esque foreshadowing now...the town is called Caliente...that means "hot"...hell is hot...
She's only claiming reverse psychology because she's feeling the effects. Maybe it's that little voice in her head saying "you really should try it Teri, what do you have to lose" that is messing with her. And that voice gets pretty obnoxious when she's drinking.
