You can always tell a real friend: when you've made a fool of yourself he doesn't feel you've done a permanent job. ~Laurence J. Peter
Yesterday I got to catch up with one of my oldest and dearest friends, Jennifer. She's been in town to stay with her Mom for a bit, and I went over to the house to visit. Her Mom still lives in the same house Jennifer grew up in, and I hadn't been there in WOW, quite some time - but as soon as I walked up the driveway, I remembered being 13 or 14 and standing in that very same driveway, posing for a picture, and I sure wish I could find it. Jen and I have been friends since the 7th grade, so that would be 27 years! (I feel really, really old, having just done that math.) Somewhere in high school we migrated to different groups of friends, but we always remained close. We reminisced yesterday about some of our crazy antics - like the first time we got drunk, sneaking out of our houses, our first boyfriends, our mutual Duran Duran obsession... LOL. I hadn't seen her for quite a few years now, and I'm so glad we got to hang out, I'd really missed her.
There's something special about those in our lives who have seen us through all our failures as well as our triumphs - and is still around to laugh with you (or at you). :)

Old friends remind us of who we were and how we became who we are. They are indelibly a part of our person and I am so glad that you are one of my old friends. I love knowing that you are forever a part of who I am.
I think it's great that you've been able to keep in touch with her all these years. Some people just touch your soul and ya just can't let them go, no matter what. Glad you were able to spend some time with her and ya had fun. Here's hoping it won't be quite a few years before you get together again.
Amy - You are the epitome of friend, and I'm so happy you are a BIG part of my life!
Nik - That's a good way to put it, "...some people just touch your soul.." Sooooo true!
Aww, that's really cool that you got to see her! And even cooler that you've stayed close for so long :-)
My Jen and I have been BFFs for 26 years... since first grade. So damn, you ARE old ;-) just kidding.
But it's awesome to have someone like that in your life who sums up your last paragraph, which I love! And it is SO fun to reminisce about all the teenage shenanegins, isn't it? We're lucky to have our respective Jen's in our lives!
Nothing better than those special people in your life who know YOU, and have always been there. You can tell a great friend by the time apart and the ease of picking up right where you left off.
Friends are such an important part of our lives and who we are - it's awesome that you got a chance to reconnect like that and share fun memories.
Renee: Jen's just rock, I guess! Wow, 26 years ago you were in the first grade. Yeah, that does make me officially OLD. heh!
Randy: We know a little about that, don't we? :)
Christina: Friends do make up such a big part of who we are!
We do indeed. What is it now, 23 years?
I love my friends, they are so important to me, more like family than friends. There is nothing better than an old friend, but meeting new ones is great too!
