Weekend Update

I spent all of Saturday cleaning my house from top to bottom. It was the weekend normally scheduled to do it, and Thanksgiving dinner is at my house, so I needed to get it handled.

Saturday night we all went to a birthday party for my brother-in-law and a family friend. The party was at a house that sits all by itself in a cul-de-sac, and they set up a bunch of flood lights so the kids could ride their bikes. Madison thoroughly enjoyed that, since she never gets to play outside after dark (let alone ride her bike in the dark). There was a fire pit, food, and beer - a combination that equaled a good time for adults, too! We got home pretty late, 11:00, and my dear sweet child was still awake at 5:45 a.m. Wasn't that just awesome of her?

Today I ventured over to Mervyn's, which you may know is closing all of its stores for good. The particular location I went to was where I'd done a lot of my clothes shopping through junior high and high school, so I was a little sad to see the store just clearing everything out. I do understand why they can't compete with stores like Kohl's, especially when they got out from the umbrella that was Dayton Hudson (the same company that owns Target). As soon as Mervyn's was purchased by private investors they lost their footing, and this economy just compounded their problems. On the positive side, there are some pretty good deals, and I couldn't resist, although several times I had to think to myself "Do I really need this?", which helped me from blowing more money than I should have.

If you haven't done your Thanksgiving shopping yet, I'm sorry... you're in for one hell of a ride. It was a madhouse - but the Smith's I do my shopping at really has checkout down to a science; I was out of there in no time, and they were helpful and smiley despite the craziness, which makes a world of difference!

Right now I have chili simmering on the stove and all of my to-do list is done. Yay! How was your weekend?

I have to get my contribution for Thanksgiving tomorrow. And considering I can't cook, it is not that big of a contribution. But I do squash like nobody's business.

I've missed you...i've been trying to catch up on blogs!

I can't believe Mervyn's is closing after all these years I used to shop there too.

Mmmmm can't wait for turkey dinner

We have everything but the turkey. No room in the freezer, so it's off tomorrow to Vons and put it in the refrigerator to thaw.

I'm so thankful for a large family that cooks.. so I can contribute.. and eat! Yess!

As for the shopping bit, I had recently posted a quick blurb with some links - in reference to last year being the first year I did most of my Holiday Shopping online.. It was the best, most cost-effective way for me to get everyone, everything I could get them - in a timely manner.

This year will be more of that style of shopping. I have been compiling lists for months and watching prices and pouncing when the deals were right.

Great post. See ya on the next one!

I:) 'm sorry I can't resist -
