A Whirlwind Weekend

I spent most of this weekend entertaining my four-year-old tornado. I was pondering today how different life is when you have a child, and how that morphs as they get older. When she was a baby, we spent most hot summer days inside, at home, and only went exploring in the very early morning hours. Now that she's four, the world is very much our oyster - as long as that oyster entertains said four-year-old.

We saw "Wall-E" yesterday, and ya know, that was an awesome movie. Amy had warned me it was a bit on the political side, so I went in wondering if I would be as disappointed as I was with "Happy Feet". I remember when I walked out of "Happy Feet", I felt they'd used a children's animated feature to make huge statements meant more for parents and it pretty much pissed me off. Now I'm thinking it was that I simply didn't like the movie. Why? Because "Wall-E" had political statements and valid moral messages, but it wasn't wasted on me. In fact, I believe anyone older than say 8 is going to get the overwhelming message (I won't ruin it for you if you haven't seen the movie). Sure, there was a lot else aimed at the adult audience, but instead of irritating me, it got me to think. Perhaps it was all in the delivery.

I even got choked up during two scenes. Yes, in "Wall-E". Go ahead, have a chuckle at that, I'll wait.

The movie wasn't as entertaining as "Kung Fu Panda", but it wasn't meant to be a comedy... It is really good, and it kept Madison's attention. I'll definitely be adding it to the movie collection when it's released.

Oh yeah. Never saw that rain, either!

What did you do this weekend?

I absolutely LOVED that movie!! I'm glad you liked it too. We're definitely adding it to our collection too. I almost cried a few times, probably more than a few times. I'm so glad they made that movie. :)

I think I rented Happy Feet, and then shut it off within 5 minutes, but only because it really irritated me. What were the political messages in that one? just curious. ciao

I LOVED Wall-E. But I must be an idiot because I totally did not pick up on any politcal messages in either that or Happy Feet. However, I hate politics so manybe I did not recognize them as such.

Sheena: Happy Feet centered a lot around problems in the Antarctic, mostly the over-fishing problems. If I remember correctly there was something about fur too, but I could be wrong.

VP: Meh, you might just be overthinking it. The whole big business, waste, end-of-the-world stuff is where I'm going with this.

Big Business definitely, and overconsumption on people's part (or our inability to say "No!" to big business' products that we really don't need,) not recycling, completely not taking care of the planet, and our own health, etc. Ooh another one, emotional detachment. I just realized that it was sad that the robots were more emotionally connected than the people. Interesting....

really I find all these points are anti-political, because in reality today's politics and government aren't doing what they should concerning any of them, but even anti-current-political stands are political stands in themselves I suppose. *I can't stand today's politics either!
