Administrate This!

Coworker S. and I went out to Pahrump today to complete a to-do list a mile long, as the site there expanded a couple of weeks back. One of the list items was a new network printer they received - it is some off-brand I'd never heard of (thus it wasn't an approved network piece of equipment). However, it has all kinds of bells and whistles so they wanted it installed vs. the Dell printer I had purchased for them. So I set it up for the network, installed it to the file server and printed a test page. All was well, so I left and installed remotely it to the desktops when I got back to the office. I got a frantic call at 4:30 (read as: Quitting Time), stating they can't print to it. I look into it and yup, print jobs go to a queue and just sit there. Can't print from the file server anymore, either. Sigh. It doesn't help that staff started pressing buttons and tried to change settings on their own at the printer before calling our helpdesk. For all I know it started as a tray error which is now a real problem.

So I'll be working tonight trying to get this hunk of crap to work. I am working a short day tomorrow and already have my plate quite full, so I really need to get this resolved tonight if possible. Of course this has to happen at a site 75 miles out of town... I must have done something to piss off the keepers of karma!

See, should have just stayed out there for a while. You could have gone out and played with the Madam's birds.

Hope it's fixed by now. Next time, Dell will have to do.

Have a great 4th!
