Tech Support Not Necessary

So I have this wireless NAS (network attached storage) that I use for backup purposes. A few months ago I couldn't get into it because I lost the password (I can barely utter it - afterall, I'm an IT Goddess? How could I be such a user!?) So anyway, it doesn't have the best administration tools, and the reset feature? Yeah. Useless. It was going to take some troubleshooting and I just never got around to it; I didn't need the data on there and I had other means for backing up my stuff. I work on computers and network equipment all day long, so the last thing I want to do is come home and fix my own crap, ya know?

Fast forward to last night, and I have no idea why, but I decided to just see if I could reach the NAS via wireless. For giggles, I enter the IP address and share name where all my data is... and POOF! There it is. Mapping the drive? Not a problem. While this is awesome in the big picture, I'm seriously pissed because of the time I DID spend on it, and now it just works, suddenly, with no logical explanation. I thrive on logic, and really want to know why.

Perfect proof that if you ignore a computer related problem long enough, it fixes itself. Now if I could just get all my users to buy the idea. Think of all the free time I'd have?!

Unfortunately if you got your users to buy in you would be out of a job.

Joe: Goooood point. I actually thought of that about an hour after my post, the concept of all that free time had clouded my judgment!

We have so many passwords here, trying to log into a box is pretty much guesswork. There are five major passwords for root access from before I got here, and two more for after. Ugh.
