I'll Find Any Reason to Buy A Truck

I got a copy of Smashing Pumpkins' "Gish" album in the mail today and I couldn't wait to listen to it on the drive home from work. I start the car, put the CD in my stereo with glee and begin my trek to the other side of down - and then it happens: silence. I look to my stereo and see total darkness; no lights, no track number, nothing. Nooooooooooooooooo! After releasing several curses, I think, very briefly, "That's it, time to trade the Tucson in." I saw that new Toyota truck glistening in my driveway, I tell you! Then I woke up. It's just a stereo, right? The Tucson is paid for, afterall... But how long would I have to go sans music? Oh, the torture!

Usually I buy car stereos from Best Buy and have them install it. I also follow one rule: anything over $200, I buy the extended warranty. This time, however, I'd ordered this stereo from Crutchfield via mail order and Karl had installed it himself. Sigh. The funny part? I called him in a panic and all I had to do was press the reset button on the deck. How's that for irony? "Did you reboot before you called?"

Needless to say, I'm again with tuneage and I'm not out shopping for that new truck. :)

No tunes!?!? That is definitely a heart-stopping moment.

I miss my old car that had the 12-disc changer in the trunk. That was sweet. But after my car died, I traded it in and just left the CD player in it. I got an extra $100 for it, which was good considering I paid under $300 for it new and it was 3 years old.

My next car only had room for ONE disc. Bah.

Now I don't have a car at all, and I'd been sitting on the subway every day in silence or with my nose in a book. I just bought an iPod though. But the stupid earbuds gave me an ear infection I think! I have to get new headphones.

This is a long rambling comment, isn't it?

Believe it or not, I went several years without tunes in my Jetta. My battery died in 1999/2000 and I think I went until like 2002 or something crazy like that because I couldn't find the stupid code and was too poor to pay the dealer to pull the code for me!

Now, I know where the code is at all times. It was a good thing I had such a short commute at the time...

No music in a car is just brutal! I would lose my frickin mind. Thank god it was a quick and easy fix for you. Although I was kinda rooting for you to finally get your truck. ;)

I had my radio stolen out of my car a long time ago and had to drive that way for a few days.. it was torture. Like you, I have to have music on in the car.
