For some people, eBay is online shopping crack. While I've always understood the attraction, I find eBay so "busy" for browsing. There's just so many items coming at you at once. Even if you fine tune your search, you're still depending on the seller's description and key words (meaning, you still get a lot of junk unrelated to what you're looking for).
For me, Amazon.com is serious trouble. They make those recommendations for you based on items you've purchased before. For me, they're always pretty good - so Big Brother - like they've got a chip implanted somewhere on the back of my neck that reads my thoughts!
So, when I'm bored and I start browsing... it means trouble. I've recently made the plunge into buying used CDs on Amazon, and I haven't been burned - yet. I'm a little sensitive about the condition of my music and really prefer buying used CDs after I've inspected the condition. But damnit, Amazon! You make it so EASY!
I have looked for various mp3's for download over at Amazon, since they provide DRM FREE downloads for the same price that iTunes offers them (except iTunes is a control freak and they don't let you do what you want with the music you paid for). The only downside is the selection still leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully they'll get with the program in the next couple of years. Down with DRM!
On an unrelated note, someone from a Joss Stone message board was kind enough to post a link to my review last night, so I'm getting all kinds of traffic here today... Sweet! Even if it is all lurking, heh.

I have to agree with their 'things you might like' picks, I think I've bought more of them than of things I specifically go looking for.
Amazon rarely gets it right with me and what they think I might like. Oh well, it's probably for the best. :)
Restarting an Amazon account is a total pain, though. I bought my girlfriend a sapphire necklace and got bombarded with jewelry crap for months, like I'm some kind of jewel... thingy.
I prefer Amazon over eBay too. I only allow myself a certain amount of Amazon time a week. I don't care for their recommendations, but I could spend hours on my wish lists.
I have to ask, what the heck is DRM?
Girlfriend...I dig Amazon! They keep adding new features, I think next to blogs its my home on the Net. I have bought and sold books and CDs on there for years and never once had a problem. I've been an Amazon woman for years (pun intended)
