What Exactly Brought You Here?

Every once in awhile Molie posts the more interesting searches that lead someone to her blog, and it's highly amusing. Now that I'm posting much more often, obviously I'm getting a lot more hits - and the searches are getting more and more interesting. Here are some of my recent favorites:

"Vegas Girl Ranches" - Why dance around what you're really looking for in an Internet search? Heh

"Gee your hair smells terrific" - I am getting at least two hits per week since posting that catch phrase, and this shampoo isn't even on the market anymore, is it?

"Is 36 old?" - Uh, that's a resounding NO.

"Why am I clumsy?" - It's in the genes, trust me. Madison is just as clumsy as I am.

"We broke up and..." - Add your ending here. I get this one a lot, all with a different sentence ending. I have apparently given way too much time to breakups!

Now stop by Molie's place and say hello, and have a fabulous day!

I still don't know how to find out what searches people used to find your blog (or even my other websites.) Be really odd to find out what people find me with.

I am worried that you use the word "Pahrump" too much when referring to work and they might think bad things.

How do you know this? Cause over the last few days I've been getting like 40 hits a day and I wonder why. I mean of course we all have those blogs we read regularly, and occasionally check out those blogs that are included as links on other's pages - but still, how do you find out about the searches and can you find out who visits your page as well? A friend on Typepad can see who visits and can password protect her blog. Makes me wonder what we can do with this.....

Snicker! My personal fav is "Is 36 old?"

Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific-According to Wikipedia it is no longer being made in the US but it is being made in the Philippines where it is allegedly quite popular. Huh who knew?

One post that drew some interesting search engine searches was my SPAM o'day post on penises. People were seriously looking for the penis exercises I made up, or thought I made up. Freaks!

Martin and Angi: I use counters that record statistics for people who visit your site. One is www.yourhitstats.com and the other is www.easy-poll.com/counters. I prefer the first because it's an easier read when looking at the stats, but sometimes the latter will pick up hits the first doesn't. There are all kinds of free counters out there.

Molie: The "Is 36 old?" was my favorite too. WTF was that search all about? Was it someone under 20 or what? heh

Bravenet provides a great counter, and I have seen my hits double the last few days over the average - but I don't think that I can tell from it how people got there. But it does provide 1st time visitors, repeats, and what is called unique visitors. I will have to look and see if I can get further info from it.

Those are pretty funny. It's kind of interesting to see how people find you. You've got my curiosity piqued now. Any chance you could inform this computer dummy how to go about putting on of those things on mine? I know, I shouldn't even be allowed to touch a computer.

Ok, I finally figured it out. I didn't see anything in Bravenet itself, but I sign up for free Google Analytics, and I can get all kinds of info there. Where hits come from (NV, CA, IL, etc.) How they got there (direct traffic, from other sites, etc) what posts of search items brought them there - all kinds of info, it's really cool. Now I just wish that the lurkers would comment!

I have to figure out how to decipher these on my blog because everyone always seems to come up with some great searches.

Angi: I didn't know about Google Analytics, this is pretty effing cool. Thanks!

Nik: do a search for Google Analytics and sign up for it, it's free! It's really very easy, seriously, don't be intimidated. If you have any questions, let me know!
