The Future For Freedom of Expression is Bleak

America, what's happening to us? When did we become a bunch of hypersensitive, lawsuit swinging cry babies? I mentioned before that I'm willing to bet Santa Claus will soon be referred to as a "Holiday Representative", but I think it's worse than that. When I read the report on the Seattle airport removing all its Christmas trees here, I'm pretty sure Santa will offend someone enough to threaten a lawsuit, and Santa will go the way of the dodo bird. I'm so sad for our future.

Oh brother.

Can't we all just get along? LOL Seriously, so now this airport (which incidentally - who cares!!!) will be bare instead of decorated (DECORATED!!!) with Christmas trees. What a rip. Why not just do it all up: Hanukkah-Christmas-Kwaanza. God forbid I forgot anything in there...sheesh!

Sad sad sad.

Yeah. I saw this today as well. I'm guessing the Rabbi just wanted some free press and saw an open opportunity.

The message of Christmas is that of peace on Earth and good will towards others. Stripping away the religious connotations of the holiday, that's the main message and something that should be celebrated by all.

Besides...how many non-Christians do you know celebrate Christmas and have a tree. I can think of at least two within a mile radius of my house.

Yep, I agree it is stupid. I go out of my way every year to call it is a winter party instead of a holiday party at school. I don't want to have to worry about a lawsuit.

Ken- heheh yep guilty :)

Forcing everyone to acknowledge all holidays at this time of year only fosters anger and resentment. Again it is political correctness gone to far.
A (decorated) tree is not an exclusively Christian symbol, I do believe it predates Christianity.

WTF?

I am sad too.

That's all I can even say - ugh.

What the heck...I can't sign in and comment. It keeps saying my account is not valid. Uhm, hello? I've had a blogger account for three years!

We covered this story today and my favorite part was the Rabbi saying he didn't want them to take the trees down, just to have equal opportunity to put up a menorah. Okay, then why did they give them a two day time limit and threaten them with a lawsuit if they did not keep to the terms he set? That was the problem...

Yeah. I saw that in the story where the airport is putting trees back up. I also heard that several airlines revolted and bought Christmas trees for the ticket counters. You almost have to wonder if it was a slow news day or something...

I entirely see what you mean. If something isn't represented, someone calls a lawyer. I understand why they pulled the trees down (and recently put them back up.) Once you bend to make changes to add a menorah, someone will whine about not having the 7 symbols of Kwanzaa with more following as they file lawsuits. It is true that the greatest way to destroy a culture is diluting their symbols (this has happened in many countries in a non-religious way.)

One of these days it'll all just collapse, we'll go back to gardening and living peacefully without lawyers, drinking coffee and loving life itself, not money.

Until then, I just look down at the grass around me and see how beautiful it is.

Santa and trees don't even have anything to do with the religious aspect of Christmas. I don't understand what people get so upset about. I'm not Jewish, but I don't recoil at the sight of a Menorah.

I'm sure he will be a good tidings liason. I'm willing to be "Holiday" would offend some.
