It's Monday Already?

A few little tidbits this morning...

We watched a sign-language video a couple of times over the weekend. For information, click here to see what I ordered on Amazon.com. I've ordered two videos in the Signing Time series, and so far, it's not bad. It doesn't keep her attention like, oh, Madagascar, but she's already using some of the words. Karl and I learned quite a bit, and we're going to try to continually use it around the house.

This segues into something we watched on TLC last night called "Incredibly Small - Kenadie's Story". It is about a little girl with primordial dwarfism. This show is heart-wrenching and uplifting all at the same time; she wasn't expected to live longer than a few days and she's now over 3 years old. She and her family have quite a struggle and journey ahead, and have already come so far. Anyway - part of her problems early on were cognitive delays, and she learned to sign much faster than she learned to talk. Just one of the reasons I'm glad we're attempting to make signing a part of our lives; children can be so cruel and I really want to try to head things like that off in our own home.

I purchased Steve Perry's "Streek Talk" CD over the weekend. When I got home with it I wondered what kind of corny spell I was under, but it's actually been a good listen. I have always liked Journey which is why I probably impulse purchased this one.

I had insomnia last night - so I'm on about 4 hours of sleep and a little dopey. On that note I should probably get to the reason I'm here, to work! Ugh. Hope you all have a fabulous day...

I think it is wonderful you are helping Madison learn to sign. Sign language is something I always wished I has learned. Perhaps I should follow your example and pick a how-to tape.

I caught that show on TLC once; I liked it very much. That family has had an incredible journey. Having three healthy children has been a blessing for me.

Funny thing is that I was just talking about Steve Perry with someone the other day. I had just read an article about bad lead singer switches, and the Steve Perry/Steve something-or-other switch for Journey was one of the switches listed. I agree, whole heartedly. I was not into Journey in their heyday, but I love listenting ot their old stuff. Steve Perry's voice has a special something that just cannot be replicated. I may have to come take a listen to your new tunes :-)

I agree with what Amanda said. I have always been totally amazed by signing. There was a woman signing at a Tom Petty concert last year - I think I had my eyes on her more than Tom!

I plan on doing the sign language thing with Jacob. I use to be fluent in it back in jr high/high school, but that was 20 years ago. Needless to say I don't remember most of it. I know they have mommy and me classes with sign language that I want to look into. I have heard so many positive things about it that I can't wait to hear how it is going for you.

It is pretty amazing to see how many more conversations learning to sign would open up for Madison but also the bond it creates with you (almost your own little language.) Street Talk is one of those albums that you can't get rid of even though you know you keep it around for just a few songs ("Foolish Heart," "Oh, Sherrie" and "She's Mine.") Just hearing those songs drives me nuts. Not in a bad way but that he isn't still recording.
