My Consolation Prize

The Friday before I decided to buy the house that wasn't to be, I ordered a new laptop. I received it today, and it was definitely a nice consolation prize! It was like trading in my Toyota for a Lexus, and the monitor is like moving from a 19" to a 55". Yeah, I'm a network administrator, and I ordered a Dell. My geekness ends around 5pm, where there's no desire whatsoever to take the time to built a Frankenstein. I prefer the IT management version - have someone else put it together, with a warranty, and break/fix it myself a zillion times. It's the building and tweaking process I no longer enjoy... but give me a puzzle, and I'll take the time. I like Dell because they have great warranties and I've never had major problems with parts over the years (for home systems, mind you - mass production for corporate/government are a whole different show). This is the 5th Dell currently operating in our house, and I'm extremely happy with them all.

I'm transferring my IPod music from the old PC as we speak - play Jeopardy music here - so I'll be here for awhile watching it copy. The laptop I'm about to retire will become Madison's game PC - she's discovered the computer (That's my girl!) so I purchased a toddler teaching game from Disney that has learning games for colors/numbers/letters/shapes. There's also a Pooh story telling game but it's pretty boring at this point. My old Dell Dimenson 933 MHZ isn't quite cutting it for graphics/sounds, it's like watching an old karate flick. I'll probably still be here for a few hours, so drop in and say hi while I watch the file copy.... :)

Sounds like what was behind door #2 was a winner! Must be nice to be working with a Lexus! Sweet!

If I have files on ITunes on one computer, how do I transfer those files to a new computer? Do I have to burn them first then transfer with a CD? IS this a stupid question?

JJ: Yeah, it's a nice change, not having to constantly monitor temperature and hard drive space anymore.

Cyndi: Here's where I got the how-to about transferring ITunes music from one PC to another: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60920#faq5
That wasn't a dumb question, I wasn't sure how to do it either.

Cindy: blogger comment cut off the end of the link, here it is again:

If you copy and paste this, make sure you take out any spaces I've entered to put the link on two lines.

I am just getting addicted to my iTunes. The problem is I'm scared if I start buy songs I'll never stop!!

The good thing about the new system is that iTunes will run and rip CDs a lot faster. I have always believed that if I didn't put my computers together myself, I'd buy a Dell. Enjoy how quick it runs on a clean OS because we all know that it doesn't last. hahaha

Take care, Meow

Yay for the new laptop. Sounds like a perfect silver lining.

Thanks for working out the puzzle of my iPod too.

Redneck: She is very pretty -- inside even more that out -- and that says A LOT!

I have a Dell and love it, Lloyd on the other hand has to build his own computer. We have quite a few computers and parts laying around all over the house and I am sure just as soon as Jacob can pound on the keyboard, Lloyd will build him one as well :)
