Music Video Day!

I'm watching "We Are The 80's" on VH1 Classic this morning, because I really only get to watch music television when I'm by myself. I caught Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty in Pink" - and I realized I do not always understand 80's music video imagery. Let's face it, videos back then were often strange. Is it that I'm older now and have a jaded, critical mind? Or perhaps that video I just associate with the movie too much? I could have sworn they had a movie video for that song but I am probably thinking of OMD's "If You Leave". I also noticed how bad Richard Butler's (vocals) teeth were. Yikes! Looking them up on Wikipedia, I learned that "Pretty in Pink" was originally released in 1981 and re-released in 1986 for the movie. There's your trivia for today!

Wow. For a second there, I thought I was on Martin's blog. That was a cool piece of trivia. Music videos in the 80s were definitely different. I don't remember the last time I saw a current music video. Too boring, plus when was the last time there was music on MTV?

LOL Ken I thought of Martin when I wrote this post. If he reads this, he's going to laugh.

No, you're not old and jaded. They were experimental at best.

But I so loved the video for She Blinded Me With Science !

I laughed at them even back then, but they were somehow cool.

80's videos were more definitely more experimental and interesting. albeit cheesy. (mmm cheese) I finds today's videos harder to watch, seriously what is so artistic about rump shaking? Boring.

Jas: She Blinded Me With Science is a fantastic video!

jj: I was seriously awkward too. I could relate to the Sixteen Candles character, but I just felt too sorry for Ducky the whole time I watched Pretty In Pink.

Barbara: Come on by! We'll have cocktails on the patio and listen to some Sirius.

Lily: Good point. At least there was art to an 80's video.

80's videos were the coolest, simply because they made no sense, more often than not. Man I miss those days.

Did you happen to catch VH1's Rock Honors show? Even though my beloved Leps were on the show, I wasn't too impressed with it.

Why wouldn't I read it? B) I absolutely agree with you though. When it comes to videos, they do film and release a few variations and many that I catch on VH1 Classic prove my memory wrong often.

I have to say that I liked a lot of Psychedelic Furs later work more but I think if it weren't for the repeated phrase of "Pretty In Pink" and it being used for the film title, it wouldn't have been noticed. (I mean... how sentimental were girls at the time to not cringe at the phrase "Isn't she easy... Isn't she pretty in pink?") Don't think that you are jaded, it's just that you've experienced more and aren't as easily impressed. I do remember having their Talk Talk Talk album on cassette though I tend to like Mirror Moves and Midnight To Midnight albums more.
