House Hunting

First, let me apologize if I'm scattered. I'm so tired! This morning I looked at the clock before I got up and willed it to be Saturday. Damnit if the alarm didn't go off anyway.

Karl is dragging me to look at new homes tomorrow. I say dragging because I am having panic attacks in my head every time he wants to talk about selling our house and buying a new one. There are a few reasons for this:

1. Having been a military kid, I moved a lot. I HATE moving.

2. Money is one of my buttons. I don't want to take on a new house payment.

3. I don't want to go through the whole selling process. My house is clean, but keeping it to "model home" status every day with a toddler living here just seems impossible, extremely time consuming and stressful. That's just one of many reasons I hate the selling process.

I keep hearing this little voice in my head telling me this is not a good idea. I do think, however, that it's just my fear and distaste for the whole thing that's really talking here. So I'm going to suck it up and see what our possibilities are. There are so many reasons for us to buy another house, and it can't hurt to see if it's even feasible. Karl is fully aware of where my head is, and he wants me to just have an open mind. That's not too much to ask, but it doesn't make me feel any better.

Wish me luck.

Good luck looking at houses tomorrow. Yes, moving does suck. Look at it this way, I'm in the process of moving now, just to move again in April/May so it could be worse.

I'm sure you've read all the sites that tell you what to do when looking at houses. It can be fun especially when you can make fun of the "professional designers" that picked out color schemes and what not.

I'm sure Amy's told you we found "the house" four times before you found our house, so it can be a process.

I feel all your concerns...they would be mine too! Try to have an open mind and see what happens. The moving process totally sucks, but it's temporary and a new home would be for a long time.

Can't wait to hear about it!

Just because you're looking, it doesn't mean you have to buy. I understand what you mean about the anxiety though. I can't sleep for several days before and after I move. Good luck!

Well, how did it go!?!?!?!?

I'm not a mover either. I really like finding my comfort zone and enjoying it. Looking isn't bad but then again you don't look unless you intend to make a change. I'd be dragging my feet like you, hon.

Thanks to all of you for the support!

I have to admit that I did really enjoy touring the models. We only got to really look at two developments; Madison was bored by then. I did find a house I fell in love with, so who knows. I'm really digging the 1.5 story ideas I'm seeing a little bit of.

Good luck. Our system was to have The Missus look at all of them, then narrow it down to the top five or so. She loves looking at houses and takes away lots of remodeling ideas.

Glad you found one you liked, though.

Ken's mom would probably go look with you, or heck, even Ken. They LOVE model home looking. In fact, if you told Ken what you were looking for, I bet he could tell you exactlly where to look. LOL... Even though we have bought, he still looks at floor plans on line daily! I am glad, though, that your brain is not bleeding.

Glad it wasn't too horrible. You are probably better off going without Madison. Maybe Aunt Amy and Uncle Ken can babysit for a little bit.

We saw a split level while we were out looking. Kind of a 70s throwback. You may also want to check out the JD Power and Associates website. They are at www.jdpower.com

It's funny because Karl loves looking at the models and the websites, even at homes way out of our league.

We could probably accomplish a lot more in one day if we left Madison behind; but we were kind of glad we took her because we got a good feel on what aren't child-friendly features in the homes we looked at. Something we actually hadn't considered. It may take us longer, but (whispering) I'm okay with that.

Fred: That's exactly how we bought this house, I narrowed it down and we made an agreement on this one. This time, however, I'm letting him do the research - this is his little idea and project. Can you tell I'm kicking and screaming?

Yup, I can hear it all the way over here.

My husband wants to buy a new house too and I keep hesitating for the exact same reasons as you.

It's hell to be sensible sometimes, huh?

Ugh, I never want to move again. I do enjoy looking at new homes though. It is cool to get decorating ideas (not that I ever use them), but it is fun.

How's the hunt for a house going?

Heather: It's nice to know I'm not out here alone. :) Being sensible sucks sometimes!

Teri: I don't blame you for never wanting to move again. But, again, you have that house where you don't need to "upgrade" anymore.

Barbara: We haven't looked anymore, but I imagine we will again soon. We have agreed we need to get preapproved for a loan to see what price range we have in store for us before we get too excited. There's a lot to still work through about selling this house too, so we'll just have to take baby steps!

Oh, my thoughts and prayers are with you Lora!

I only want to make one more move and I'll be alright then. I currently live in an apartment and I'd like to have a house someday. We moved all over when I was younger and I hated it.

Nik: Thanks! I was really hoping our move from an apartment to this house would be it for a long, long time.
