There is Hope For Me Yet

Yesterday I thought I'd hit an all time Christmas spirit low. We did the first of two photo sessions with Madison - yesterday she took pictures with one of her cousins. Anyone who knows anything about children knows it's mostly a horrific experience to get their pictures done when they're toddlers (I hear it doesn't get much better for awhile, either). With two of them yesterday, I thought I'd been placed in purgatory. One finally smiles, and the other one cries. The crying one settles, and the first wants to move. You get the idea.

Last night Madison watched the short included with the Madagascar CD called "The Penguin Caper". If you haven't seen it, it has a Christmas theme - and while she stared at the TV trying to make sense of it, I imagined Christmas morning - introducing Madison to her stocking and all the goodies inside, the look on her face and the excitement of new toys. Then I thought about my own childhood - My parents pretending to be Santa Claus and the looks on their faces when I ripped open presents from under the tree. I remember always waking them up long before the sun rose to see what Santa left, making cookies for Santa with my Mom, finding my first bike under the tree. They always made it so fun for me... I can't wait to do the same.

Today's picture adventure went much better. We went to The Picture People. If any of you need a good place to take family portraits, I highly recommend it. The young lady took her time with Madison, who only wanted lunch and a nap.

My son once fell off of the podium thing they make them sit on for pictures and landed forehead first!

Glad you finally had a good experience.

Thrilled to hear the second experience was better. I can only imagine how much fun you will have this Christmas morning. She is old enough to get into it and have some fun. RAPTURE!

I bet the pictures look great. I think your perspective about holidays change when you have kids. It becomes about providing for them, and that's the way it should be.

I always feel sort of so-so about the holidays, now that I'm an adult. Once I have kids, I think they will feel magical again. I know yours will be!

Glad you got some good pics...that can be sooooooooo difficult at that age!

I hope you capture the look on Madison's face Christmas moring so we can all see her little eyes light up.

My son just wants money now. What fun is that? (he's saving for a car)

It is pretty amazing to see when things start to make sense for a little one. Kind of like watching them understand what a word means. Photos are always tough though and I'm happy you made it through another year.

Yep, the holidays are sooo much better when you get to watch your child's face light up. Ohh I remember the good old days..

What you mean the good old days...should I squeal with delight when I open my presents this year? Lora, X-mas is as wonderful as th time and energy that you put into it. Take it from someone who grew up in a family of 10 kids, it was the best day of the year...

Heather: oh my gosh!

Amy and Ken: Thanks, it is going to be really fun, I'm so excited! I'm seeing the holidays in a very new perspective, and it's not too bad!

Meegan: I haven't really gotten into the holidays for over 10 years. I'm willing to bet you're going to know what I'm feeling when you do have kids.

Layla: I remember the just wanting money part. It's good he's saving his money for that car. You've obviously instilled the value of the dollar, and he's being responsible with his money.

Martin: Yes, it is so exciting watching the little light bulbs pop up all the time.

Teri and DG: - Am I allowed to use your real name? Feels funny calling you 'dg'. Anyway - I know you both have been in my place! But 9 siblings? Holy donut holes, batman! Although I can see all sorts of chaos in a house with 10 kids, I bet Christmas morning was in fact THE best. Oh, and I think you should squeal.

I used to hate those picture sessions. I wasn't much better than the kids.
