Road Trip!

Today I get to venture to the interesting city of Pahrump, Nevada. I have a lonely little file server with some workstations out there with some work/maintenance to do. Thankfully I can accomplish most of my issues for Pahrump remotely; today, however, I need to make an appearance. It's hard to explain Pahrump. You know you're almost there when the billboards advertising brothels smack you in the face... Yes, prostitution is legal in Nye County, where Pahrump sits. I found it interesting that the Wikipedia link above doesn't mention that at all, as Pahrump is very popular for that very reason. For those who enjoy a nice glass of wine, Pahrump has its own winery and I try to stop in and buy a few bottles whenever I do go out there. I've tried all the reds and whites - they're all very good, but I really enjoy the symphony. Check it out yourself: Pahrump Valley Winery.

For a city that has grown so large so fast (approx. 40,000 people in 2005 vs. approx. 25,000 in 2000), it does still feel a little like the old west. I don't mind getting out there; it's not that long of a drive (something like 68 miles from my office one way), and it gets me out of said office for a little while.

On a side note, the insomnia is gone! Wooohooo! I'm still catching up on sleep, but thankfully I'm sleeping. Have a fabulous Friday!!

I had dinner at the winery out there and, although it was expensive, I still remember the experience. Never been there since and have yet to walk into a brothel even though I love looking at their menus. hahaha

Makes me think of the HBO series Cathouse. The reality of what it is like to work in a brothel.

At least you do not have to make that drive very often. When I worked at Bellagio I knew people who lived out there and drove into work everyday. Talk about putting miles on your car.

A winery out there? Who woulda thunk? Glad the insomnia is gone - it'll make for a better weekend. Enjoy!

Those little trips out of the office are the best.

Martin: I did the tour, but never have eaten at the restaurant. I'll have to put that on my to-do list.

Teri and DG: Never did see Cathouse. I could never live out there, just not the place for me.

Fred: I know, I expected a kind of hole when I visited the first time. It was a pleasant surprise!

Moose! Nice to see you stopped by. I do enjoy getting out of the office, it's a real perk to my job.

Ther is talk that there will be a lot of little Pahrumps popping up. NOT like that, but more like commuter cities. People living there and commuting to Vegas. One of the few places that real estate is still relatively affordable.

Glad you are catching your zzzzz's.
