All For a Good Night's Sleep

Warning: This may be the epitome of a trivial post.

I decided over the weekend I was tired of waking up with a neck ache. It was time to buy a new pillow. Sounds easy enough, right??? Oh, so very wrong. I head out to Kohl's on Saturday to buy Karl and myself new pillows. There was a WHOLE wall dedicated to pillows. Some designed for back sleepers. Some for stomach sleepers, and some for side sleepers. So what if you're some or all of the above? There were firm, fat, fluffy... and then you had to consider things like thread-count and hypoallergenic qualities. Ack! I'm not trying to buy a damn car, just a nice get-some-good-rest kind of pillow. I stood there baffled for five minutes, then took another 30 to sort through them all. I finally decided on two of the Cadillacs of pillows, made by Sealy. You get what you pay for, right? ha ha Thank goodness they were on sale, because they were outrageously priced.

Do you think I got a good night's sleep? Karl and I got to bed really late but were looking forward to sleeping in (7 am is late for us). We hopped in, and laid our weary heads on those brand new pillows, and our heads were at 90 degree angles. No need to rest on my elbow to watch TV, I tell ya.

Sunday it was off to Target, who didn't have the overwhelming selection. They were still categorized - and while I can see the market for these specific pillows, it still doesn't help those of us who actually move from one position in our sleep. Does anyone fall asleep on their side and always wake up still on their side? I decided on two new pillows. Karl is pretty happy with his, thankfully. Mine, perhaps it just needs some breaking-in. But I can hear the hum of the air conditioner in mine. I think it's that allergen cover I put on it. The damn thing is teflon, I swear it. A little white noise never hurt anyone, right? The Cadillac pillows have migrated to our pillow shams, that's about all they're good for.

Lora, ask Teri about her $100 memory foam pillow. She loves it.

I actually can't sleep with a pillow. I discovered this about a year ago. I just sleep on my back with my arms in coffin position.
