Personal Growth

I had a conversation today about personal growth, and the question posed to me was: Do I feel I've had personal growth in the last 10-15 years, and how? Honestly, at first, I was a little stumped. Have I? Of course, right? If you learn nothing from this journey called life, then what's the point? So I've been pondering the question more, and here's what I came up with.

  • Constructive criticism. I'm so much better at accepting it. One can learn from another's perspective, I just needed to thicken my skin a bit (okay, a lot) to get that.
  • My temper, or lack thereof. Wow could I blow a gasket, and I can thank my father for that! It doesn't get you anything but high blood pressure, so why? I still have "Serenity now!" moments, but no one goes running for cover.
  • I am more in tune with what I want in life. Smiles, laughter, security, love. Being surrounded by people who genuinely care about me, good times with friends, a happy and healthy child and avoiding stress I really don't need. I could probably write a few paragraphs on this one, but you get the general idea.
  • I take much better care of myself. I eat better, exercise daily, get enough sleep most of the time, and I get all the necessary regular checkups. I also sweat the small stuff a lot less. Yeah I know, I still smoke. I didn't say I was perfect. :P
  • I appreciate the little things: Watching the sunrise, an afternoon with a girlfriend, reading a bedtime story to Madison. A drive on a beautiful day with no real destination. A good belly laugh!
So, tell me something about your personal growth in the last decade or so?
