Dallas Kitty Gets to Play Outside

Dallas, our cat, is an indoor cat. He doesn't have claws in the front, so I felt it wouldn't be safe to let him out as he can't defend himself. He never really showed an interest in being outside until I started to spend considerable time with Madison in the backyard, and when she learned to blow bubbles - it made him crazy. So in the last couple of months I've started letting him outside with us, leaving the back door open, as the sound of cars on the road spooks him, and I don't want him to have nowhere to run. He'd been abandoned as a kitten on the 215 freeway and I don't think he ever really got over it, even though that was 7 years ago. Anyway... he's developed a real love for the sights and smells outside and is slowly getting really comfortable being outside with us (as I am getting more comfortable having him outside as well). Here's a couple of photos of him outside last night as we were playing and grilling dinner:

This is his favorite chill spot, underneath Madison's sand and water table.

Here Madison was trying to make him more comfortable by giving him a hug. If you look closely you might notice the look of "Help?" on his face... and you can get a sense of just what a big cat he is, he weighs about half of what Madison does!

It was a good long weekend here... and now we're gearing up for the week ahead. I hope you had a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!

I can't get over how much Dallas looks like my Nerissa! :)

Our cats are indoor cats as well but we let them in our backyard under our supervision and they LOVE it! They roll on the cement, chase bugs and play with weeds (yeah, we hardly ever go outside) But I am always nervous to take my attention off of them because I fear they will hop the fence and run away. They have been known to leap higher than our fence.

We've got three with no claws, and two of them love to get out whenever they can. We also have an outdoor kitty, Buddy, who has his claws.

If one of the indoor cats got stuck outdoors, I think Buddy would protect them. They all get along just fine.

He's one handsome dude! As you know I can't let any of my cats out anymore...its not safe around here, but they still sneak past us whenever they can.

Hmmmmm, he looks like he is part bobcat/mountain lion to me. Are you sure it was a housecat mom who abandoned him?

Dallas is such a cool looking cat and, again, the look on his face cracks me up. It's cool that he enjjoys being outside, just be sure he doesn't figure out how to get out.
