My Expensive Mistakes

It's no secret I am horrible on things I own - I damage watches, jewelry, clothes, my car... but my worst problem is electronics. I am forever dropping things and I can honestly say I am careless at times. My Palm Treo phone had a dent in the plastic in less than one month! This morning I pulled out my iPod at the office and when I docked it and it turned on, I saw them. Hairline cracks in the screen. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! See I put the iPod in a hard plastic case after the first time I dropped it and dented it ever so slightly. I'm thinking it's in a hard case, it doesn't matter that it's shoved in the small bag I take to work each day, along with 40 other items. It's bulletproof, right? Apparently not. The cracks don't disrupt the viewing at all and you really can't see them unless you're looking at it. But you can clearly see too much pressure had been applied to the device, thus causing cracks that could probably get much worse with another suffocating time in my bag. Coworker S. suggested I try to get the warranty to cover it. It might be worth a shot, but I'm not confident.

I'll just do anything to have a reason to go buy that 160 GB iPod classic, won't I.

LOL at both the comments above mine!

Have you every thought of getting a bigger bag?

How much is that 160GB????? I got my "incentive" check from the Feds...maybe I should help out the economy by visiting the Apple store...

Amy: I know, I scare myself...LOL

Joe: Heh! I have definitely dropped my share of workstations, but the only thing I've actually broken in 8 years is a monitor. It seems the smaller the item, the easier I break it...

Barbara: I had a bigger bag, but I just carried around more unnecessary crap! I think the 160GB iPod is $350? Not sure, haven't let myself actually look seriously at them yet. I wish they came in more colors.

Hmm, that's weird. My iPod IS bulletproof. Maybe that's why it cost $1000.

I agree, try the arranty - our extended warranty on a relatively new 37" hd lcd 1080i tv got us a brand new better one when one of the speakers went out - they never even came to look at it. And I know when I bought Nat's ipod they guy at Walmart told me to get the warranty cause the battery alone costs more than a new one. The warranty should cover that! And Ruben is as bad as you, our new PS3 just went out and it's the 60 gig they discontinued and you can't get an 80 gig cause they quit as a newer version comes out in june (I think is what he said) so he bought a 40 for now till his comes back from repair but it doesn't have enough usb ports for the 4 needed for rockband! he's hoping with all the changes PS is making and what he paid for his PS3, that he'll get bumped to the bigger one.

oh loved your shirt from memorial day, lol!

Sucks that the iPod is cracked. My question is, what the hell else was in the bag to crack it like that? Is there maybe a special pocket in the bag that you could keep the iPod to avoid further damage?

As for the 160GB iPod, my mom always said if ya can't take care of the things that you have, you can't have the nicer, more expensive things. ;)

Oh no! I just got an iPod nano, and I sleep with it close to me in fear that anything might happen to it. Of course, I'm pretty clumsy too. So I'm probably hurting more than helping.

GO FOR THE CLASSIC!

I'm amazed at how the latest gizmos and phones hold up in spite of all the abuse. D3 and I got the same phone at the same time and hers looks like it's been dropped a few thousand times. Yet, it still works.

I'm with Keds up there...you must really be tough on those things.

The 160GB version is on my list of gifts I'd love to get myself. I promised Kerry that I'd give her mine if I do that. I'm just afraid to put more songs on iTunes because then I need to pull songs off... it ticks me off being stuck with only one good option. Maybe with my first check from renting the house.
