Inspiration

Inspiration from others is a given... you might call a best friend when you're sad, a parent when you're sick, a significant other when we're happy, a coworker when you're frustrated and of course our children always make us want to be better people. Those closest to us are always there to feed our need to feel good about ourselves and succeed.

So, besides the obvious as listed above, what inspires you? Perhaps it's a particular painting or artist, music, movies or even your work? Maybe it's money or fame?

If you know me personally at all, you know that music is my inspiration. There's music for driving, music for cleaning, working... music that commiserates with me when I'm sad and music I smile to when I'm feeling love. Music definitely makes my world go 'round.

For me, music is (just) the soundtrack of my life. Like you I have for every emotion, occasion, etc. But music is not my inspiration - otherwise cleaning this massive house would not be such a problem! To me I find that I have different inspirations for each and everything - Natalie is my inspiration for scrapbooking and taking photos, my family is my inspiration for cooking, my inspiration for helping cut the grass at times is to make weekends more enjoyable for Ruben. Inspiration changes for everything, though it's mostly family oriented for most things. I want to fight this cancer for my family, I try to workout some for my family, I try to be a better person for my mother even tho she's no longer here. So it's really just too difficult to name one, tho family is the most - and even when silent I still hear music in the background!

Of course, you would know that music is my biggest inspiration. It is where I find my resolve during troubled times or distraction. But, coming in second would be stories -- stories of overcoming the odds, self-sacrifice and personal betterment.

Music is mine too, but so is nature and words. Now when you combine all three (like a hike in the woods with an ipod and a writing pad....) that would be PERFECT.

Generally, what inspires me to write is actual events that happen to me; I just mangle them until they reflect what I wished would happen.

Depending on the situation, inspiration can come from many different things. I'd have to say, though, that for me, music is the one universal for inspiration. It doesn't matter what's going on, music is vital to me. I also have a friend who was born with CP and he's a drummer. He refuses to let his disability stop him from anything. He inspires me big time. (Notice,it's music related) ;)

Excellent topic, Lora!

I hate to admit it, but people inspire me. I am a totally outwardly directed person, so other people rock my world. But, I will also say tha twhen I am dragging a$$ on the eliptical, there is nothing like "Low" or "Jive Talkin'" to get my going again. Music definitely holds its place in my universe. But people are definitely a go to source for encouragement.
