Owwwww!

I've been considering for awhile how I can change up my exercise a little bit. I've missed only two nights of walking a little over 2.25 miles since June 15. I could go a little further every once in awhile to jolt my body and metabolism, but do I want to end up at a two hour walk in about a year? I do want to have time to do other things besides my exercise after Madison gets to bed. When would I have time to blog? :)

So last night I started jogging for a little while... not the whole 2.25+ miles. Oh no, I'm not crazy. Okay, just a little crazy. :P I started with about a quarter mile. Downhill. It wasn't bad... but today I was sore. The muscles on the front of my legs (I believe the quadriceps) were quite sore. I know when you start a new exercise and you feel sore and stiff, you should work the soreness out by doing the activity again... so that's what I did tonight. I actually ran more tonight, without overdoing it. But tonight I ran uphill as well as downhill. WTF was I thinking? So now, not only are my quadriceps very sore, but so are my hamstrings as well as the muscles in my butt!

What is amazing here is I didn't hate it. I have always been a superb walker, it's an activity I know I can maintain and be consistent with for the long term. I haven't actually run at all since high school, and then it was only because the PE teacher was screaming at us to hurry up. So I am pretty impressed with myself. Let's just hope I keep it up...

I can empathize. I'm heading back to the gym and focused on legs last Tuesday. It was Friday afternoon before I could walk with any sort of a normal gait...

Ibuprofen. Well, at least for the first couple days would help. But it is good to see you pushing the boundaries. I was thinking that you were going to put Maddy on your shoulders (to increase the weight as you jog and use it for bonding) which could lessen your workout time. B)

I admire your will and determination. I wish I had a fraction of it when it comes to exercising.
