Lessons Learned in Home Ownership

We decided to change the light fixture in Madison's bathroom because it was cheap and ugly. I didn't have a before photo, but when we took the old fixture off so I could patch and paint today, here's what we found:

Do you see the gaping hole in the middle? Uh, yeah. That's crappy construction. What I'd picked out to replace what was there will definitely not cover that hole. So either I'll be 1) patching the crap out of that or 2) choosing a new light fixture that will cover that hole. The two holes on each end are way too large for the screws that were in there as well, they'd totally hacked that to make it work as well. I'm almost afraid to see what's under the fixtures in the master bath.

Do you like my butterfly wallpaper border? Amy picked it out with me when I decorated the bathroom like 5 years ago.

I shudder to think what is underneath all the paint and spackel of our house. They put them up so quickly they have to cut corners somewhere.

That's the fun of home ownership and remodeling.

Net Admin, huh? Nice to meet you. I'm a web admin, coder, designer.

Were there a lot of options for fixtures? I have a similar dilema.

I have a few funky fixtures in the house. Kinda thinking that I'll leave them that way and let the next owner make a statement by removing them. I'm thinking that repairing the wall isn't too bad but will the repair be strong enough to hold the fixture covering it? You are going to have a lot of fun with that.
