Things have been a little weird around here...

When I'm not sure how to deal with a situation, I tend to just shut down. It doesn't even relate entirely to emotional issues. I do the same at work when conflict is running amok. Some will tell you it's because I was definitely a man in my last life, some will say it's because I was an only child and didn't learn empathy. A couple of old boyfriends would say it's that I have no soul.

My good friend's mother passed over the weekend. I didn't know her mother well, but I do know it has turned her life upside down. I also know I can't even imagine what it's like to lose a parent. I'm very sad for her and can't put it into words.

My Dad is looking at being laid off this week from work. He's retired military, will be 59 this year - and hasn't a dime for retirement. I could rant about this, because there are reasons I am angry and troubled about it, but moreso I'm just worried. If there's one thing I learned from watching him all these years - don't count on anyone else to take care of you. Take steps to ensure you can take care of yourself financially when you get older, and don't wait to start.

My camera has been out for repair, so I can't show you all how Madison loves running around the house in my winter socks. I have this great fuzzy blue pair with bright colored cats all over them. She pulls them on and they come up to her thighs, and she thinks they are the coolest ever, even if it's summertime!

Did you read this article about the BBC removing incidences of smoking in their cartoons? Cartoons like Tom and Jerry? Read about it here. I'm surprised it's been initiated in Britain and not the United States - because you know how much the government likes to think for us. I could rant about this one too... but I'll save it for another time. Tell me what YOU think about it.

I'm buried to my neck in work, so I need to get back to it. Have a great Tuesday, all!

I used to shut down all the time too. I think ever since I moved away from home I've become more of a crybaby.

I tell my girls to go in their room, close the door and scream as loud as they can. It makes them feel better.

Hey Sweetie, you sure have more than your share this week! I hope you can find a way to relax (and/or scream) to let some stress and worry out. Hang in there. Hugs.

I do the same thing. Shut down when stressed. I hope things get better for your friends and family soon.

I just hate having to deal with it cause you never know what to say or do...'I'm sorry' always sounds so lame...

More Rorschach words...

HAUFFRD - (haf-ford)half a cow or an old Ford pickup with lots of additional mixed parts...

I go into shut down mode myself and just concentrate on getting through one day at a time when things get rough. I am still floored about Amy's mother. And now your father is being forced to retire? How awful. When we all work so long and hard and become defined by our jobs that is especially difficult. I will be thinking of you and your family and of course Amy and hers as well. Hang in there, blue skies are around the corner.

Oh, and by the way...I did read about the Tom and Jerry thing. How stupid! "Texas Tom" is one of my favorites. I may have to mention this on my blog.

As the friend with the mother who passed, i understand the wholo shut down thing. we were at her house yesterday and i was numb -- just kind of like a robot. in fact, that has been how i have felt a majority of the week. sometimes i think that is what happens when we just cannot deal with any more.

i am sorry about your dad, and hope that my return home this week will help aleviate some of your worry about me.
i love my friend.

I think the big long rant about Dad's predicament could really wake up some people. B) I think you do quite a good job of being there for your friends and this time is no different.

I've got my 401-K right now! :D

Yes, I'm a bit surprised that this smoking thing started in Britain. Not like it's a huge impact on humanity or anything, since there aren't that many cartoons out there who smoke. But...

My mom is 75 and in fair health. But, I worry about her and Dad almost every day, knowing that I'm not spending enough time with them.
