Brief Oscar Talk

I watched much of the Oscars tonight for the first time in probably two decades. I wasn't as bored as I expected... certainly not as stuffy as I remember! I think the producers of this award show learned a lot from the comedians who have hosted as well as the format for other award shows such as the Mtv Movie Awards. Make them laugh, and they won't change the channel! There wasn't a lot of political soap-boxing and everyone looked beautiful. Reese Witherspoon as Best Actress, I'm not surprised; I did not see Walk the Line yet but I like her poise and elegance. Crash seemed to be an upset for Best Picture this year, did anyone see this movie? I can't really say a word, I didn't see a single movie nominated (although I do plan to see Crash and Capote ASAP).

Enough about the show, I know we'll all be inundated by news reports about it for days. I hope you all had a great weekend!

Sounds like a fairly decent show. The only movie I saw was "Crash" and I personally liked it and understood that it was an EXAGGERATED story. Here where I live the LA police are all upset because of how they were portrayed. They don't get it...its about ALL PEOPLE everywhere, and it was not suppose to be a realistic drama - more of a creative statement type movie. Just call me Barbara Ebert from now on!

Well, since this the Oscars are my Superbowl... Capote was wonderful in so far as the acting and such. It was deep, long and plotted. Very well done. Good Night and Good Luck -- if you like Clooney, if for no other reason; see it! Crash was everything a good movie should be. With a cast like that, it was a no brainer. Don Cheadle blows my mind every time! Brokeback -- well, I will save that for a phone chat. I haven't seen Walk the Line yet. Maybe we can watch it together while we stuff save the date envelopes or something. But yes, the show was good, John Stewart did great, and everyone looked lovely.

Crash was a good movie, a little hard to stomach at times, but well written and beautifully played out. It isn't the first time a controversial movie has won for Best Picture, although this year there were several controversial movies up for big awards. And I loved how all the Best Picture noms were smaller films, not big blockbuster crap that studios churn out to make a buck. They were movies that had heart, good content and good storylines. I hope this trend continues.

I just can't do awards shows. It sounds alright though.

Barbara: Tell those people in LA to get a life. If there's one city that should understand "art", they should be it.

Amy: George Clooney is the epitome of cool. But "Goodnight and Good Luck" does nothing for me. John Stewart did kick ass, you're right.

Amanda: I do believe you're right - the best movies were chosen because of content, message and just damn good writing vs. big $$. I have a new list of "to see" flicks.

Matt: I'm not much of an award show watcher either, so I'm surprised that 1) I watched and didn't turn the channel and 2) I actually enjoyed much of it.

I understand hookers are very upset about "It's Hard Out There Being a Pimp" winning best original song. Let's face it, they do all the hard work. They have a right to be steamed.

I need to see Crash and might someday catch Capote. Walk The Line was great... even if you aren't big into country music or don't care about Johnny Cash.
