Reunion Over

Once again Fox has decided to take a perfectly good show and cancel it without tying up loose ends. "Reunion" has been cancelled, and I've read it's last episode is February 2. This show, for those of you who don't watch it (apparently there's a lot of you), is a whodunit about 6 friends who graduate high school in 1986. One of them is murdered in 2005, and every episode is one year that unravels the mystery. It hasn't gotten great reviews they say, and it's no CSI, which it's up against every Thursday night at 9pm. Instead of moving it to a schedule with more of a chance, they're going to cut it off at the first thirteen years.

I can't count how many times Fox has done this. They keep shows like "Family Man", and who knew "Malcolm in the Middle" would still be on??? Is this what America is truly glued to the television for every week, this is the success in television? I'm not saying "Reunion" is worthy of any Emmys, but come on, "Malcolm in the Middle" has lived how many seasons? That has to be the worst television I've ever seen, just my opinion. I have enjoyed the "Reunion" storyline, and the nostalgia (business trends, world events, fashion, not to mention the music!).

So now the dilemma. Do I keep watching, hoping they'll get the other episodes on DVD? My guess is not, they probably cut it off when filming stopped at the first 13. I'm so disappointed I'm not going to know who the killer is.

I can absolutely understand where you are coming from on Fox's cancelations. They've killed some great shows that had fans supporting them even against really big shows. They don't nurture a series the way they should. Not everyone likes a crime drama and I figure there are too many Law & Orders and CSIs. I actually thought that they were going to splice up the footage they had and try to wrap it up in the last of the 13 episodes. Pitiful. Especially when a show openly says that it is only going to run for a season and they can't even let that happen.

I've never seen the show, Lora. Then again, I've yet to see ER, CSI, or many of the other very popular shows. I'm tiring of TV in general. Too many look-alike shows and very little innovation.

This show sounds prety good, though, it's a shame it didn't make it.

They can't just cut you off! Fox has such weird standards. I love some of their shows and some are just stupid. I never saw Reunion but it sounded intriguing. I only watch about one show per week, not much of a TV person these days.

P.S. Isn't Martin hot iconized? I am sure he is in person too.

It was a pretty interesting mix of music for the show. The songs from the first episode actually were hits from that year. For some reason, I didn't connect with it. It might be that I had something else conflicting with it on Tivo.

Thanks, WW but hot not constipated... maybe. I'm not one that likes to smile for photos. Must have been all the camera girls taking photos at one of my previous jobs that gives me the urge to fight a smile in front of a camera.

Jas: You're right, tv and Hollywood operate on another dimension altogether.

Martin: Why they don't let this show run its course for a season, I will never understand. That's only 7 more episodes... ugh. The writers did do their research, I haven't personally found an error, although tv.com did have one from the first episode - one character makes a crack that Andrew Ridgely will be the next John Lennon, and they said that by 1986 Wham! were already has-beens, that George Michael was already doing solo work, so that seemed a small mistake. I thought it was hilarious, regardless that it was a little bad timing.

Fred: I understand your disdain for the tv selection. I spent most of my adult life avoiding the TV - and now that I'm home so much with a small child, it's the only thing I have energy to do at the end of the day. It's too bad the selection couldn't be better, but I'm certainly finding a lot to keep me interested.

Layla: I know, Fox does have some good programming - but they keep so much crap on TV for years and years, it's frustrating. Martin's icon is fabulous - although I do think he should smile more. :) Oh, and yeah, he's damn hot!

Don't look at me, I'm still irritated with you guys for getting me hooked on Mythbusters and Survivorman... Which I can only watch with DVR.

I hate it when they cancel good shows. I haven't seen Reunion, but I am getting sick of all the "Franchises" they are building out there now - Law and Order, CSI. I like some of the CSI shows and the original Law and Order is still pretty cool, but come on - an original idea please.

I personally am an Arrested Development fan who was pleased to hear that ABC and Showtime are both interested in bringing the show back to life on one of their networks.

I admit I have never seen it, but I hate it when they get cancelled too soon too!

When Entertainment Weekly reviewed the show they had a bunch of period inconsistencies, none of which I remember now.

Malcolm in the Middle is an excellent show, though not quite as strong now as it once was. One thing the few people realize is that even though Malcolm's ratings are low now (along with Bernie Mac), it's financially advantageous to keep making it because the show is already in syndication. Before syndication, shows do nothing but lose money. After syndication is when networks make all the profit. So regardless of ratings, making Malcolm now is pure profit.

Oh, and it's the show's seventh year.

Yeah RT but Survivor man is getting weak...stranded in a boat on the ocean? Come on, no traps for small rodents? No survival tips? Meanwhile Mythbusters keeps on chugging away, building a gigantic, human firing across the border slingshot was just fantastic...

While I could not get into Reunion I feel your pain. Fox is notorious for cancelling edgy shows without giving them a fair shake. They cancelled Kitchen Confidential and yet Staked is still on the air.
When Arrested Development came back after a hiatus (Fox aired Prison Break reruns in it's timeslot), AD mocked PB in their return episode, one of the actors even declared "I’m just burnt out on prisons lately."
