There's a lot in my head this morning so I'm just going to spew it all out in one post. I'll try to keep myself from rambling.
- Today is my hubby's birthday. I grew up with the notion that birthdays are a big deal. Karl could not care less about the day. Happy Birthday babe! We are going to spend the day together tomorrow to celebrate. Can you say four-day weekend! Woohooooooooooo
- I had lunch with a former coworker yesterday. He left this office to do IT work for a local police department, and he's been recruiting me to join him. I've been blowing it off, so he brought the big guns out yesterday - he invited his boss to come talk to me about a job opening. The job is actually a step down, it's pretty much just desktop work; right now I handle everything from the desktop to the router so it would be less of a challenge. There is more opportunity for advancement there, and the pay! It would end up a 20K raise after I made probation. 20K!! Karl and I talked at length about it last night. Yeah, it's a great opportunity, but the hours are bad (4/10's, working 7-6). It would be very difficult to work that around a toddler's schedule, and even if Karl could somehow adjust his work schedule, I'd never see her. It's just not worth it. I am happy where I am for now, and there's a lot of flexibility for me here. That's very important as a parent... more important than money.
- Awhile back I posted that I was having trouble finding gifts for Madison's daycare caregivers, and asked for ideas. I ended up buying these great felt hallmark gift bags and filling them with a few neat items, to include movie gift certificates (snack bar items too). They loved it!! Thanks for all your input.
- Madison and I are finally well, after two weeks of disease hell. I still don't have my voice back but some may be thankful for that. LOL
- What's everyone doing for New Year's?
- It's my Friday today and I have no motivation to work... considering I was out for 5 1/2 days I shouldn't be in lazy mode. In my defense, the holidays allowed me to catch up pretty quickly. No one else is working either, so my work orders have been minimal. I literally have nothing on my plate today.

You are an AWESOME mom for making the choice you did. Flexibility is so much more important than the extra $$$. I did the same thing when Keven was little and am so glad when I look back that, even though I worked, I was able to be there for him every afternoon and at all his school functions, etc.
Dude, I forgot my air guitar at home today! I am listening to Jimi, the perfect opportunity to play and I don't have it with me. Dang!!
Glad you and the little one are feeling better!!!
Happy Birthday Karl!
I went through the same thing with the job when Josh was little. I really think you are making the right decision.. they grow so fast. By the way is it with the North Las Vegas Police Dept because my brother works there in the IT department.
That was a great choice for gifts. I did that for my secret pal at work.. gave her a movie pack.
I am so glad you guys are feeling better. Being the self proclaimed germophobe, I can't believe how sick you have been getting.
New Years is up in the air right now. We are planning to go out to the Ranch House for dinner with Amy and Ken, you guys are more than welcome to join us. After that who knows.
Layla: You're right, flexibility is so important. I want to be there when I need to be, and I know that's possible where I am.
Teri: Yup, NLV Police Dept. He works for city IT? Sweeet. You'll have to email me his name, what a small world. My friend is the guy who works on all the laptops in the police cars, he's not a part of the IT Dept. I can't believe how much illness daycare sends home. I mean, I knew it was coming, I just had no idea the volume of germs I'd be sharing with my little one. I am not sure what we're doing for New Year's if anything, we don't know if we have a babysitter yet.
Happy Birthday to Karl. Maybe it's a guy thing, but I'm not real big on birthday's either. To much fuss for me.
Good choice on the job. If you're making it now financially, and have the flexibility, you're doing the right thing by staying where you are.
As for New Year's Eve, we're going to a neighbor's for a quiet evening. We're too old for the big bashes.
Happy New Year, Lora.
Must be nice to actually get paid for the work you do...IT sucks sometimes, it could be worse though, I could be a teacher not getting paid.
As someone who recently changed jobs for a lot more money, it can be a double edged sword. I have the flexibility of working out of the house and I can run errands and do other things from time to time, but then there are the times where I need to be awake and on a conference call at 3 a.m. because of some outage. If Amy and I had kids, I'm not sure what decision I would have made.
As Teri mentioned, the four of us are going to the Ranch House for dinner, and after that it's up in the air.
Happy Birthday Karl!
