It's The End of the World As We Know It, And I Feel Fine...

Can anyone sing along with R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World" from beginning to end? I have been trying since the 80's to accomplish this and apparently don't listen to it enough, or just can't do it! I end up doing what most do, singing the chorus real loud to overcompensate.

If you want to hear the song and try it out yourself, you can find it here: REM Discography
Thanks Martin for having the band link on your 80's Music Central Artist's Links page. Sadly, R.E.M. didn't include the lyrics for this song on their website, so you can find them here: 80s Music Lyrics.

I always come close to getting all the lyrics but I also don't hear it enough and flub one or two here and there. R.E.M. have some great stuff. BTW, the RIAA has started going after sites that post music lyrics. This was tried once before and the sites came back within the last 3 years. Should be interesting to see where that goes.

I can remember some of it, but not the whole thing. I suspect Martin would be the only one to get close.

How about this...

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs.
Feed it off an aux speak, grunt, no, strength, Ladder start to clatter with fear fight down height.
Wire in a fire, representing seven games, a government for hire and a combat site.
Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck.
Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped.
Look at that low playing! Fine, then.
Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do.
Save yourself, serve yourself.
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and the revered and the right, right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers.
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn.
Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting.
Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate.
Light a candle, light a votive. Step down, step down.
Watch your heel crush, crushed, uh-oh, this means no fear cavalier.
Renegade steer clear!
A tournament, tournament, a tournament of lies.
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental drift divide.
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam book neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it. can't I have some time alone?
It's the end of the world as we know it can't I have some time alone? and I feel fine...fine...

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it. can't I have some time alone?
It's the end of the world as we know it can't I have some time alone? and I feel fine...fine...

Thank the internet for this...

LoL, I love that song! But you know what, even if I know the words there's no way I could keep up with it.

I agree with RT there. It's kinda like the 80's version of Barenaked Ladies' "One Week."

We Didn't Start The Fire! That's the other song! I wanted to mention it in my last comment, and how the two songs remind me of each other, but I couldn't think of the name... Sorry 'bout that 8)

Martin: When I posted this I had in my mind you'd be the only one to come close.

Jas: At least we admit it!

Vavoom: Is your sad song about yellow snow? ;)

Fred: Yup, seems to be the general consensus.

dg: Doesn't count if we can't hear you sing it!

rt: Yes! We Didn't Start the Fire. I totally forgot about that song. I can see the similarity.
