Is Lasik for You?

My brother-in-law's ex-girlfriend is having Lasik eye surgery on Friday. I'm going to pick her up from the doctor and take her home, and make sure she's comfortable. The doctor has advised her to go home and get to bed right after surgery, to rest her eyes... The whole idea of a torture device holding my eyelids open, so a laser can sear me into corrected vision just freaks me out. They're giving her a valium to relax before the surgery, but I'm thinking more like three or four of those puppies would do the trick. Apparently the corrected vision is pretty instant - the drugs and numbing factor on the eyeballs are much more a concern than the surgery itself. Pretty neat, eh? Still just freaks me out. I do wear glasses, but not enough to want to go through that.

On the same note - my brother-in-law's ex-girlfriend came to Madison's baptism, and of course I was trying to introduce her to a few people... It's very awkward because she's Mommy to one of my nieces, but she never married into the family, so she's technically not my sister-in-law, but obviously she's still family. Did you get all that? So what do I call her?

Jas: I'll let you know how it goes for her. Perhaps that will help the willies I get just thinking about it, too. :)

Moose: Good point - but you know that moment when you introduce someone new, and everyone wonders the relationship to you? That's the awkward pause.

I actually planned on getting it done but was denied. My cornea was too thin at the time. But, I'm rather happy it didn't happen. My father and brother both had it done and have trouble reading things close to them. They also have slowly lost some of their "super vision." I'm going to wait and see what happens 10 years from now.

I am afraid to get the surgery done.. I agree with Martin, I will wait 10 years to see if all you have to do is take a pill or something :)
